In fact, I thoroughly enjoyed the course and learnt lots of things about how my website works. Most of all, however, I learned enough to realize that, despite that year at college albeit part-time what I knew about websites was enough to cover a postage stamp! Yes, I could write a website but would my website ever be good enough to draw the customers in? I dont think so! I learnt all about meta-tags and keywords; how to incorporate layers; and how to adjust color scales. The trouble is, from that course I learnt enough to realize that, for a really good website, I needed to leave it to the professionals to do. I can honestly say that I know enough to tell the Website Designers exactly what I want but, through the knowledge I gained at college, I wouldnt dream of leaving my precious website to a generic template and the little I have learned. Added to which, I also learnt enough to realize that I didnt even like doing it! So, what are the pros and cons of using web templates to design a website? Naturally, when first starting out, money is often in short supply and hiring a professional to provide you with your first website will be expensive. You can purchase quite good templates that are more affordable than hiring a professional Web Designer only you can decide whether that is likely to be false economy. After all, your website is likely to be the first impressions your customer is likely to get of you: you can never get another first impression! Another advantage that immediately springs to mind is that you can easily gain access to your website control panel to make any changes you want without having to wait for your professional Web Designer to be free. Personally, though, I have found it is easier to leave it to somebody else to deal with my website design somebody whom I can trust to provide me with a professional site than to purchase a professional-looking web template that I have to put together myself. To me, the argument is professional as opposed to professional-looking. Website design is incredibly important, both in terms of aesthetics and ease of use. So, for my money, which would I choose a web template and design my own web site, or choose a professional and pay for their services? I think it really goes without saying my website has to make me money so I would choose to use the expertise of a professional Web Designer who knows what they are doing and who can provide me with a website that does exactly what I want it to do bring me customers and for potential customers to gain a first impression of professionalism and efficiency.
