For years, the Bind-it Corporation made someof the best thermal binding machines on the market. Based out of NewYork, Bindit was responsible for designing most of the modern thermalbinding equipment that is in use today. Additionally, most of thethermal binding covers and hard cover cases were made by Bind-it.However, over the past year the bind-it name has disappeared. This hasleft many customers asking, "What Happened to Bind-it?" The simple answer to this question is that the Bind-It Corporation waspurchased in 2007 by the Coverbind Corporation of Wilmington NorthCarolina. After the purchase, Coverbind proceeded to eliminate theBindit name and absorb the Bind-it infrastructure. All of the Bind itemployees in New York were let go and Coverbind proceeded to move theheavy production equipment to North Carolina. Almost overnight, theBindit name disappeared. But what happened to all the equipment andcovers? When the Coverbind Corporation bought Bindit they also bought therights to their binding equipment and all existing inventory. Thisplaced the fate of the Perfect Bind II, Covermate 700 and the BinditHard Cover Crimper in the hands of Coverbind. Unfortunately, theirdecision was to sell off the existing inventory of machines and then todiscontinue production of all of these models. Within months almost allthe existing inventory was gone and the machines were no longeravailable for purchase. Some of the items were replaced by Coverbindequipment while others had not replacement such as the Bindit hardcover crimper. Many of the thermal covers and hard cover cases that Bind-it had beenproducing were also discontinued. The entire line of bindit thermalphotobook hard cases was discontinued along with the "goofless" utilitycovers, and all thermal covers that had clear fronts. For variousreasons, Coverbind chose to discontinue all of these products.Unfortunately, this left a lot of existing Bind-it customers in a toughplace. Luckily, former employees of the Bind-It corporation were able toorganize a new company to help produce some of this discontinuedproduct. This new organization is called Probind and is based out ofKansas. As of the end of 2007 they are fully operation for theproduction of thermal covers and hard cover cases. In 2008 they plan onreleasing a new line of thermal binding machines including a hard covercrimper. For the moment, the Bindit name along with all their thermal bindingequipment is gone from the marketplace. The Coverbind acquisition hasfor the most part been a huge disappointment. However, as time goes onwe can continue to expect new equipment and supplies from a new companycalled Probind.
