The photography industry is competitive. One way in which a photographer can add value to his offering is by communicating session preparation tasks to his clients. There are a number of things the client should do before he shows up at the studio. By creating a pre-session checklist for your clients, they will be better prepared for the session. The preparation will add value to the client because he will receive more artistic and memorable shots. Before any session, make sure your clients know the following: 1. That their garments should be simple with medium to dark tones. They should think through what clothing will photograph well on them. Darker clothing makes people appear thinner, thus this clothing is often better for full length shots. For group shots, no one should be wearing clothing that will make him or her stand out from the rest of the group. Clothing should fit properly. Both clothing that is too tight and too lose will not hang properly and will likely have too many folds and wrinkles. Also, in general long sleeves and pants are the best. Bare shoulders detract from the face. In addition, while tan lines can be removed, they cannot be removed without expensive editing. 2. Makeup should be not be worn any heavier than is normally used for a night on the town. Even when markup is normally never used, a light foundation will make your skin tones more even. By providing your clients with a check list which contains these and any other suggestions you think would be helpful you are adding to the value your client will get out of your photo shoot.
