Strengths: If you go by pictures that you see on the internet, you mayget the idea that the DFG EC2000 is made of plastic. This could not befurther from the truth. The body of the DFG EC2000 is made of heavy diecast metal, and is clearly built to last for a long time.Punchingtwenty-five sheets of paper was not a problem, but the fit was aperhaps a little tight. You will preobably want to stick with punchingtwenty two pages max, though this is actually excellent capacity formost medium to large projects and applications.The DFG EC2000 comes with crimping pliers, which are absolutely necessary to the process, and around a thirty dollar value.TheDFG EC2000 includes some other great features along with its heavy dutyelectric punch. The measuring device helps ensure that you always usethe right size coil, and there is an always-handy depth of punch margincontrol on the machines left side. There is also a spiral coil inserteron top, and the user can activate the punch by use of the foot pedal,which enables both hands to be used to hold the document in place. Weaknesses: The most glaring weakness of the DFG EC2000 is that thereare no disengageable dies. What this means is that the user can notstop any of the individual pins from being engaged in the punchingprocess. In practical terms this means that it ranges from impracticalto impossible to punch any size document that is other than thestandard eleven inches. Well, to be more exact, you can punch justabout any size document, but you can expect there to be half-holes onthe ends of the document. This is perhaps not the cleanest and mostprofessional look, but might be all right for low profile documents.TheDFG EC2000 does come with a built in electric coil inserter, but it isnot the easiest one to use that we have come across. Most of the betterinserters on the market come with two rollers, for instance and the DFGEC2000 comes with only one. Also, it is only six inches in length,whereas there are many binding machines on the market whose rollersextend the length of the machine. To top it off, so to speak, therollers are located on the top of the machine, which means that youwill be forced to lift the pages up. Don't get us wrong, the inserterworks, it just falls a little short in the ease of use category. Recommendation: As a heavy duty spiral coil binding system for letter sized documents,the DFG EC2000 shines, especially for its price range. The onlydrawbacks are the lack of ability to cleanly bind other sizes, and thecoil inserter's relative difficulty of use.
