Here we offer a closer look at some of the strengths andweaknesses of the Powershred PS-77CS. Strengths: The PS 77CS is without a doubt one of the more capabledesk side shredders we have seen. The motor kick out at eleven feet perminute, and the machine states a shredding capacity of 12 sheets perpass. It met that standard without much problem in our testing, but wedo have to note here that the results you experience may vary a littlebit according to such factors as the weight of the paper you areshredding, and the age and strength of your power supply. The PS 77CS makes shredding just a little bit easier by acceptingstaples, paper clips, and credit cards. More impressively, you canshred compact discs (CDs and DVDs) with the PS 77CS. That is a veryhandy feature in the digital age, and one that we were pleasantlysurprised to see in a small desk side shredder. The PS 77CS's cuttersare made of solid steel, and Fellowes offers you a 5 year warranty uponpurchase. If you have read any of our shredderreviews, you know that we care a great deal about the type of securitythat a given shredder offers. The PS 77CS shines in this regard aswell, offering you a shredder Security Level of 3, which means that asfar as the federal government is concerned, you are destroying yourconfidential documents to a point where any potential identity thievescould not glean any information from them. The laws enacted in 2005 tohelp prevent such crimes states that documents must be shredder at a(cross cut) security level of 3 or above in order to keep you safe frompossible fines or litigation. Again, if you arefamiliar with our reviews, you know that we take safety very seriouslyas well. We are happy to report that the Powershred PS 77CS does too,and comes equipped with one of the best safety features in the shredderworld, Fellowes unique (and in fact patented) Safe Sense system. Thisremarkable system uses special sensors near the feed opening thatdetect body heat and cut power to the motor if a hand or some fingersget too close. This is a feature we like for many reasons, and for manyapplications, but feel that it is an especially nice touch if thePowershred PS 77CS is being used where there are any children orhousehold pets nearby. Weaknesses: Not a weakness so much as a limitation, it is just important to beaware that the Powershred PS 77CS is a machine that is designed forrelatively light use. There are larger, higher volume shredders outthere that are built for continuous use. However, the Powershred PS77CS is not one of them. This machine is designed to run for 10 or 12minutes continuously before it will require about 20 minutes ofdowntime to prevent overheating of the motor. The 9-inch feed opening is perfect for the vast majority of papersizes. Just be aware that if you are going to want the ability to shredlarger custom sheets on a regular basis, you might want to find ashredder that has a larger feed.
