Do you know how powerful your intention is? How important it is to believein your hopes and dreams? How critical it is to focus on what you wantrather than what you don’t want?I can’t go into great detail in the space allotted here but here’s thebottom line: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN IDLE THOUGHT. Please read thatline again as it is a statement of a fundamental law in the physicaluniverse. Every thought you have literally sends a pulse of energy outinto the universe where it gathers “support” and comes back to youmultiplied.If you knew how true this was, you would be much more diligent in managingthe thoughts you allow yourself to have. The average human being has inexcess of 50,000 thoughts a day and unfortunately, for that average humanbeing, most of those thoughts are negative and/or focused on what he/shedoesn’t want. Is it any wonder why most people are unhappy with theirlives and their firms?I had an experience recently that demonstrates what I’m talking about. Mygirlfriend Freddi and I were in Charlotte, NC on a Thursday taking some timeto have fun and play after a very successful three-day retreat. Our flightfrom Charlotte to Dallas was at 4:00 p.m. where we had a 90-minute layoverbefore our flight to Santa Ana.American Airlines called me at about 2:00 to let me know our flight wasdelayed an hour. We went to the airport at about 3:00 just to find outthat our flight was delayed further. We bought a one-day pass to the USAirways Club so at least we could wait in comfort.Freddi had an event with her granddaughter to go to on Friday morning sowe looked at each other and agreed to intend that somehow we would gethome that night and, to make it really fun, that all of our flights wouldbe upgraded to first class.Well, our flight out of Charlotte was over 3 hours late and assuming wewould miss our connection in Dallas, I called AA to determine the statusof the next flight, the one at 9:20 p.m., and was told that flight wasoversold. I looked at Freddi and smiled and said I had no idea how itwould work, but I knew it would.Our flight to Dallas was indeed upgraded to first class and as soon as welanded, at 9:00 p.m., I called AA as we taxied to the gate to see if ourflight had left. Sure enough, it was already in the air. But without evenhaving to ask, the agent said she’d just book us on the next flight, whichis now delayed to 9:45 p.m. so we’ll have no problem catching it.Interesting so far?So off we went to gate D-27 which just so happens was right next to the AAAdmirals Club. So we hopped in there, the agent already had us in hercomputer, and issued us two coach seats together AND put us on the upgradelist for first class.Off we went to the gate where our names were already being called for afirst class upgrade. We could hardly contain our excitement.Then came our final challenge. The flight was going to be even later inleaving and there is an 11:00 p.m. curfew in Santa Ana because that’s whenthe airport closes. In fact, when they announced boarding at almost 10:00Dallas time, they literally told us that if we couldn’t get to Santa Anaby 11:00, we’d have to land in LA and be bused to Santa Ana.When we finally took off, there was no way we should have been able tobeat the curfew. So Freddi and I looked at each other, smiled with aknowingness we’d get home on time, and settled into our first class seatsfor the flight home. The plane landed at 10:50 p.m., beating the curfew by10 minutes.Now for all of you cynics, who think that was just an interesting set ofcoincidences, I assert to you it wasn’t. This happens so frequently; ithas become for me a game I play consciously.As I said earlier, every thought you have literally sends a pulse ofenergy out into the universe where it gathers “support” and comes back toyou multiplied. Send out fear thoughts and watch yourself have lots ofthings to be afraid of. Be negative and your life and your firm will bea nightmare. Focus on what you don’t want and have lots of what you don’twant.Conversely, be happy and grateful, intend that all your hopes and dreamsbecome your reality, stay in a place of peace and contentment, and expectthe best, not just some of the time but all of the time, and just watchthe universe shower you with everything you want. And if you’re the leaderof a firm, a president, CEO, owner, or partner, do this and watch yourfirm grow and prosper.Give it a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
