GBC makes terrific comb binding machines and the CombBind C55 is a great entry-level device for home and office use. This is a fairly small machine that can bind documents containing up to 90 pages. The CombBind C55 has some terrific special features including a built-in carrying handle and a rotary comb opener for your convenience. This machine is also pretty easy to operate, even if you've never used this kind of device before. This is how you do it: Take the machine out of the box if you haven't already. The device doesn't need to be set up, so you can get started right away. Make sure you have everything on-hand including your document(s), plastic combs, and covers. You need to punch your paper before you can bind anything. Raise the CombBind C55's punching lever and line up your pages. (Note: the machine can only punch 5 sheets at once.) The machine has an edge guide to help you align A4 and letter-sized paper, as well as covers. Press down on the lever to punch holes in the paper. Repeat the process until all of your paper has holes in it. Now that your document has been punched, it's time to select the appropriate comb for your work. Choose a spine depending on how many pages your document contains. Here's a quick reference guide to help you out: 10 to 25 sheets: 1/4" comb. 20 to 40: 5/16" comb. 30 to 55: 3/8" comb. 50 to 85: 1/2" comb. (Be sure to include the covers in your page count.) Once you've selected your comb, place it on top of the comb opener with the teeth pointing up. Use the rotary comb opener to spread the comb apart and then begin threading the teeth through your document. It's helpful to put the front cover down first so that the comb's opening will be at the back of your document. This will make it look more professional. When all the pages and covers have been added, close the comb and remove the document from the machine. If you have other documents to bind, just repeat the process.
