Thanks to careful planning on management's part, Ford isn't looking for loan money (yet), hoping that several new products in the pipeline pull the company out of its current funk. 2009 will be a turning year for the auto industry with Ford having the best chance of succeeding going forward. Let's take a look at what is setting Ford apart from the American pack, particularly those products which should give the company a boost going forward.Midsize Sedans This Spring, Ford will be introducing the second generation edition of three of its popular sedans. The Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan are close siblings while their fancier relative, the V6 powered Lincoln MKZ, is the entry level luxury car for the Lincoln brand. The Ford and Mercury will have a hybrid model too, one the EPA says will deliver a segment leading 41 mpg. The MKZ gets a fresh grill treatment and improved interior, steps which should help the car compete successfully in its class.Ford Mustang The iconic Mustang has been around since 1964, a true pony car that maintains a loyal following. Despite a recent sales slump, the 2010 edition should spark interest and, thanks to a buying incentive via the federal stimulus package, provide the sought after halo effect for the Ford brand. Ford now has to fend off the Dodge Challenger and Chevrolet Camaro, excellent competition for the Mustang.Lincoln MKT This summer, Lincoln gets a second crossover vehicle dubbed the MKT. Riding on the same platform as the Ford Flex, the similarity between the two vehicles ends there. The luxed out crossover incorporates Lincoln's strong, new design language, has a roomy and luxurious interior, and is priced to compete with the best crossovers from Acura, BMW and Mercedes.Large Sedans Late this summer, a pair of large 2010 sedans for Ford and Mercury will be released. The Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable and vastly improved with fresh sheet metal, a much more luxurious look and bigger all around. Both vehicles will be the flagship cars for their respective brands, elegant and immensely important vehicles to help burnish each make.EcoBoost On the engine front, Ford takes a leap forward that few other automakers will be able to match. EcoBoost technology which incorporates twin turbochargers, allows a smaller engine to produce greater amounts of power without sacrificing fuel economy. Essentially, an EcoBoost V6 equals a normally aspirated V8 in horsepower and torque while delivering class leading fuel economy. By 2013, Ford plans to produce some 750,000 EcoBoost engines to outfit a whole range of vehicles.Ford certainly isn't out of the woods yet financially and is very vulnerable to sinking itself if the current recession deepens and/or drags out. But, given the vehicles coming out this year, Ford is well ahead of General Motors and Chrysler in stimulating excitement, just the right product mix that should boost sales going forward.
