The steering is unsettled when cruising on the motorway and it does not perform as well as its rival, the Volkswagen Golf. Peugeot has focused on comfort with smaller wheels and softer suspension that suits the new model. The car copes with speed bumps and potholes but the sportier versions with larger wheels are more uncomfortable. The diesel engines are quiet. However, on motorways you will experience some wind noise. The 308 has a good driving position and high spec models have electric seats. The new larger boot means slightly less legroom in the rear. The rear seat is also narrow which makes it feel too small for three people.Peugeot's reputation for reliability is not good although the company is striving to remedy this situation. Inside the 308, the quality is lacking when compared to the Volkswagen. There is a touch screen interface and all other parts have been tried and tested in previous models. Peugeot gives a three year warranty and the previous 308 model scored five stars in crash tests at Euro NCAP, with this model expected to do the same. There is an option for a panoramic windscreen but for families this is not the best choice as it restricts headroom in the car.Peugeot has not yet announced the prices for the range of 308 models but they are expected to be competitive against the closest rival models which are the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus. If you choose a higher level spec than the entry model you will get alloy wheels, satellite navigation and a 9.7 inch touch screen display.
