On a recent episode of 60 Minute Makeover (24th April, 2009), hot interior designer Kathryn Rayward and garden guru David Domoney transformed the house of Margaret in Bowes, East London. One of the featured bedrooms was the loft which was to be given a contemporary Japanese-themed makeover for use by Margarets teenage daughters.Originally empty and just used for storage, the room was a blank canvas just waiting to be transformed. Kathryn tells us her inspiration for the room came from the Kyoto Dream Japanese kimono which she found online at Fine Orient:This is a really interesting kimono and its based on scenes from the Golden Pagoda Temple in Kyoto. Were thinking laterally and its going to become a beautiful piece of art. In actual fact, we got the kimono first and we almost evolved the design around the kimono. So I just think theyre really interesting; theyre talking pieces its nice to have talking pieces within a room. The finished room looked spectacular, with the kimono as a centrepiece and other gorgeous furniture such as a futon, Geisha artwork and Japanese-style screen panels to complete the oriental look. Margarets daughters even felt the guestroom was better than their own rooms and looked forward to staying in it!David Oxley, Managing Director.Tel: 0113 27458000Website: http://www.fineorient.com/
