In a very special All Star baseball game, my son, Karlwas selected to play against an All Star team from Japan.This game featured a team of the best players from south -western Pennsylvania to play against a team of the best playersfrom Japan. The game kicked off the 2001 Pony LeagueWorld Series.Our team had so many pitchers that each boy was allowedto throw 1 inning. Karl pitched the 6th inning for us and wasthe only pitcher the team from Japan didn't score on.Of course our boys lost the game to an almost professionalteam, but it was a wonderful experience for all. Quite anhonor just to be chosen and it was a day they will rememberfor the rest of their lives.There was a reason why Karl was chosen. He had provenhimself to be a very good ball player in our previous AllStar tournament play. At the plate he had a batting averageof .400 and he was our team's leading pitcher giving uponly 2 earned runs with an Earned Run Average of 1.08.Pitching in the regular season he gave up a grand total of 2 hitsthe entire season and allowed zero earned runs to cross theplate. For the last 3 years almost 75% of the batters hehas gotten out have come from strikeouts.But, this article is not about his accomplishments, it is aboutthe struggles and hard work he went through to get there.Friends, as a baseball coach I want you to know this:Baseball players are made - not born.As an online marketer, I want you to know this: Onlinemarketers are made - not born.Back when Karl was 9, he had a great desire to becomea pitcher. We set up a special area in our barn where wecould practice. Every night we would be out thereworking for endless hours on his throwing mechanics. Hethrew me thousands upon thousands of pitches and welearned from every pitch.During the day we would go to the local batting cage whereI would throw him pitches until my arm was about to fall off.Then back home to the barn where we would hit the balloff a batting tee.Many times after Little League games we would go homeand practice till midnight. We got his batting mechanics perfect,we got his pitching mechanics perfect. He can now throwstrikes blindfolded.It sure didn't start out that way. We worked through failureafter failure and a lot of discouragement.
