Trade show displays excel at presenting information in a large, attention-grabbing format. They excel at this no matter what the type of information is, yet many people view them as restricted to conventions and promotion of companies and products. In fact, some of the most successful trade show booths have been used for much more altruistic ends to help nonprofits gain support for their views on issues. For a fledgling nonprofit organization, an inexpensive stand can be a great solution when used properly.Trade Show Booths That Don't SellIn many ways, removing the pressure of sales from exhibits allows designers to be more creative. Units made for nonprofit organizations should still have a strong focus on results; they can simply be a bit less restrictive because of their purpose. Nonprofits have another advantage in their use of imagery. Don't be afraid to include images of some of the greatest tragedies or victories that have inspired your crusade. Many potential supporters are completely unaware of the plight of millions of people and animals worldwide. Clever use of photos and supporting text can do a lot to awaken consciousness of atrocities. A particularly poignant photo will stick in the minds of visitors much longer than any amount of words. However, do be careful not to use photos that are overly graphic or too disturbing. Make a conscious evaluation of the photos and go from there.Provide Plenty Of LiteratureOne key component of successful nonprofit trade show displays is having information available to be taken home later. Visitors will often want to revisit and learn more about particular causes on their own time, a process that can be made much easier with a few simple brochures. You should always ensure people can visit your website for more in-depth information, but don't hesitate to provide many different handouts at your trade show booths. When it comes to educating the public, there is no such thing as too much information.Enthusiastic Staff Make Trade Show Displays ShineFinally, never underestimate the importance of having excited volunteer staff members. There is no better way to help others understand your cause than to have it explained by people who are truly passionate. These people will be at least somewhat self-selecting because they'll happily volunteer a day or even a weekend of their time to help spread the word. They'll happily man your trade show booths, even helping with setup and takedown. Most importantly, they'll be able to explain to visitors how helping your organization has made them feel. People want to know that you have a tangible, positive impact. Between the testimonials from your staff and the photos on your unit, the proof is plain to see.Designing trade show booths for a nonprofit involves adapting the common principles of unit design for a different audience. Rather than pushing a sales goal, you're pushing a goal that enhances the well being of humans and animals for years to come. Whether you're recruiting people to sign a petition, help out at an event, or donate funds, clearly communicating your agency's mission and leaving them in no doubt that you do a good job of executing that mission is a surefire way to succeed.
