When you set out to design your trade show displays, you think about attracting as many visitors as possible. When people come into your booth, they learn more about your company, understand what your product offers them, and are much more likely to purchase from you. This is true whether you are selling business to business or business to consumer.The goal of trade show displays is clear, but the best method to achieve that goal is not. There are two main theories that can be used. First, there is the idea that a broad appeal will benefit your booth the most. The second theory suggests that by designing your unit to appeal to a very specific audience, you can achieve superior results with them, accomplishing a deeper branding process that results in more qualified leads. Both theories have merit, but their utility varies from industry to industry. Benefits Of Mass AppealWhen you first begin planning for a convention, it will always be tempting to create a unit that appeals to everyone. If you select this route, however, it might backfire if you create a booth so general that it appeals to no one. The key differentiating factor between successful mass appeal and a booth that gets lost in the crowd is what they're each promoting. If your product or service has true mass appeal, then you will want to keep your theme general. You attract visitors by letting your product or service speak for itself.The problem with this theory is that it can fail if your product itself is not very exciting or is difficult to promote. For example, any kind of intellectual product, intangible item, or very small component is tough to use as a design element in trade show displays. If you can't demonstrate your product or service for promotional purposes, it may be tough to get visitors into your booth.Targeted Trade Show DisplaysIn contrast to more general units, a highly focused booth will have a very narrow appeal, but will be a strong draw for those who really are attracted to it. Targeted trade show displays use more extensive themes and are tailored to their particular audience. They use their product as a part of overall presentation, but their trade show displays go beyond that to attract suitable visitors from across the convention floor. Techniques for creating a specific unit start with the crafting of a possible custom structure that immediately speaks of the company's goals or products. For example, a company producing a new video game might create a booth that echoes the new main character. These highly specific designs will draw someone who will be fascinated by the game, but may turn away people who are less likely to become devoted fans. Making The Call For Your BusinessUltimately, the decision comes down to each individual industry. If your industry can succeed with a narrow focus because of a very devoted group of customers, then you should probably choose that over more generalized trade show displays. If you are appealing to a wide group, then a general unit will be better. There are special situations which might make general or specific trade show displays more appealing. If you are launching a new company, carefully decide whether you'd prefer to have an eye-catching specific design, or a more conservative generalized appearance, as both can have their advantages to a new startup.
