A trade show is the culmination of a lot of hard work. From deciding which pop up displays best fit your company's image and needs, to actually getting the portable displays to the venue, staffing often is considered last. However, take care to ensure your company's employees aren't making these critical mistakes.Mistake #1: Understaffing Your Portable ExhibitsAn understaffed booth means that your trade show stand visitors could be left hanging when they stop-by to learn about your company and your products. Most visitors won't bother to come back and talk to an employee if the booth is too full on their first go around. Instead, make sure you have enough employees to fully staff your portable exhibits and account for breaks, lunches and other time away. If you're not sure how many employees to bring, estimate to the best of your abilities and considering bringing one more. Mistake #2: Not Setting GoalsJust showing up with your pop up displays without setting goals you want to meet at the trade show is another mistake. Setting goals is a vital part of any business's success. Whether your goals are to talk to everyone who enters your portable exhibits, or you want to simply collect a certain number of leads, setting measurable goals helps to ensure success at the trade show. Mistake #3: Handing Out Promotional Materials To EveryonePromotional materials can be great things. However, employees working your pop up displays shouldn't just hand out promotional materials to everyone who stops by their table top displays. Instead, get to know the client's needs first and then selectively hand out the appropriate literature. Many people take promotional materials, but then either throw it away immediately or keep it for a while, but never read it. It can be expensive to print brochures and flyers so being careful about who will get them in the first place can save your company quite a bit of money. Mistake #4: Not Practicing Your DemonstrationsIf your portable exhibits include a demonstration, make sure to practice. Exhibit attendees will know if you're winging it and won't have the patience to stay and watch a demonstration that's being fumbled. Instead, have each employee run through your demonstration to make sure that the event will run smoothly, even when your star demonstrator takes a break for lunch. Mistake #5: Not Following Up On Leads AfterwardsIf your event is a successful one, you'll likely leave with more than just your portable exhibits in tow. After the event, follow up on the leads you've collected and talk to each potential client personally. Many companies will reach out via email or regular mail so take the extra step and make a phone call. Avoiding these mistakes when you take your pop up displays to a trade show will help you create a successful event time and time again, so be sure to go over them with all employees working the booths.
