I didn’t realise at first until someone ‘Liked’ my playlistthat it had automatically shared what I was playing to my Facebookfriends. The Spice Girls. Sappy love songs. Hansen?! Some thingsyou’d rather keep to yourself. So, with this in mind, I wasn’t a huge fan ofautomatically sharing my music with the world.Some people like to share everything, from what they eat towhen they put the Christmas decorations up. ‘Sharing’ for some may be anautomatic process, you like something, you share it.  So how are businesses meant to filter through someof this pointless noise and grab the attention of potential consumers? 4 billion things are shared on Facebook. Every day!By 2014 this has been predicted to go up to 32 billion. (Soshable)With inboxes swamped and feeds constantly updating, it canbe difficult to keep up. I skim, delete or bookmark some things for a laterdate and most people will only pay attention to certain information they deemimportant and block out the rest. As a user, I am sometimes blind to content and ‘shared’pages on Facebook or Twitter. The influx of content being shared and updated onTwitter and Facebook feeds can sometimes be overwhelming and it’s hard keepingup. I do share things with others that I feel passionate about,this week it was Yankee Candles. When I asked my partner if he’d seen the linkI’d shared for these, his response was ‘I thought it was Spam,’ so it wascompletely ignored, just as with a lot of other posts on Facebook. Be Heard The number of people who view their friends and peersas credible sources of information about a company has dropped from 45 percentto 25 percent since 2008, according to the Edelman's Trust Barometer survey.Getting heard is becoming more and more difficult forbusinesses through social media and it will only get harder, so try these tipsand shout a little louder than the others. Be Unique – Tryand think of relevant and unique ways to catch the attention of your audience. Listen and comment– Interact with your audience to generate interest from others, even if it’s controversial.Know whento post - As our networks grow, it's getting harder to readeverything. People generally read one or two pages of updates and checksporadically. I usually browse and pay more attention to updates when I havemore time, in the evenings and on weekends. Don’tbe too loud – Try not to bombard your audience with too much,you’ll deafen them. Trial& Error - Try different frequencies and look at what’shappening. Are you losing followers? Gaining? Maintaining? Are you gettingpositive, negative or no feedback? Online sharing is notjust about pushing your own content around but also helping others. Sharing is alsothe process of pushing others’ information around because the social media space is all about building a community. You don’t wantto just share your own content and information over and over because eventuallyit just seems like too much self promotion. Some of the biggestand strongest brands who have a large social reach don’t just focus on sharingtheir own material but also help to share information on others. They do thisto reach new audiences that they might not have been able to reach out to withjust their own content. Taking the rightapproach to your online content sharing campaign could allow your business to beseen in a whole new light. Take the time to think about how you share yourcontent online. Do you take a community driven approach or do you just movearound your own content? Sharing is caring, so show your audience and yourpeers that you are a team player. The social space isall about being social, so invest in the expertise of socialmedia agency.
