If you haven’t actually visited Goa, there is no way you can imagine even half the real charm that it holds. It’s not just the beaches and the hippies that make Goa what it is - it has much more to it. A rich blend of many cultures, Goa presents an India unlike anywhere else in the country. The beaches, the city, the country side and the forests all present a different world for every unique visitor. Sun-soaked beaches in Goa offer solitude to tranquility lovers by the day as they turn haven for party lovers by night. The surfs offer excitement to sport lovers as the sea side becomes a rage for shopping maniacs and the flea markets buzz.    A long Konkan coastline allows Goa to afford a good number of exotic beaches, something that has enchanted tourists to the place. Choose any beach in Goa and it has a totally unique experience to offer. Anjuna Beach in Goa holds the spot of being the most frequented beach here. It is flocked particularly for its full moon night beach parties and the Wednesday Flea Market. The Queen of Beaches here is however the Calangute Beach. Its silvery white sands mesmerize every visitor even as the beach offers a world of water-sporting activities. Baga Beach in Goa is mostly known for its happening and famous restaurants and cafes. The Arpora village nearby is noted for its night market. A quieter experience can be had at Candolim. It is noted for its serenity and the presence of some of the most important churches in the area. Watching a river meet the sea at Miramar beach is always a delight. As we move south, the beaches get more tranquil and quiet. Bogmalo and Palolem are especially noted for their serenity and calm. Colva beach in South Goa here is more happening of its other counterparts. It is frequented for shopping, nightlife and some ancient churches.    Known mostly for its nightlife and party culture, Goa has very well kept a rich culture alive. A rich amalgam of Hindu and Portuguese cultures, the state is home to some of the most exotic religious places in the country. Mythology attributes it to Lord Vishnu, and hence has a good number of temples. The finest of churches around the country are also to be found in Goa. The Basilica of Bom Jesus is probably the most visited religious site in Goa. It houses the mortal remains of St Francis Xavier. Other noted churches are Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church in Panjim, the Church & Convent of St Francis of Assisi, Chapel of St Catherine, Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, Royal Chapel of St Anthony and the Church & Monastery of St Augustine. Some of the best known Hindu shrines in the state are the Mahalsa Temple in Mardol, the Mangueshi Temple in Priol, the Shantadurga Temple and the Ramnath Temple in Kavlem.   Another characteristic feature of Goa is its love for food. The best and authentic of it is available not in the five-star hotels but in the seaside shacks that are never in want of visitors. Fish curry, pickles and fried fish are undoubtedly the staple food of Goa. Try talking to the locals or refer to some good travel guides to get information on where to get the best food. Different places have different specialties, so try out dishes only at places that are the best. To be the safest, try out the shacks at the beaches run by the locals. They serve good food and are mostly hygienic and rightly priced.    What most people do not expect in Goa is shopping, but it is one of the best places to shop for the most unusual. The Anjuna Flea Market, the Saturday Night Bazaar at Anjuna, Friday Market at Mapusa Friday Market at Mapusa offers a whole variety of eatables. Ingo’s Saturday Night Market at Arpora are experiences not to be found anywhere else in the world. The beaches buzz with stalls selling t-shirts, trinkets, funky jewellery, bedspreads, mirror-work garments, electronic goods, Goan sausages, dry fish, cashew nuts, feni, Goan masalas, xacuti and cafreal spices, Goan sweets and so much more. The goodies on offer here are so tempting that you’d probably end up buying stuff that is not even needed. However don’t leave with out picking a bottle of Goan Feni.    Goa has even more in it than anyone can pen down. A holiday in Goa is indeed blissful. Make sure that you have good time in hand to enjoy the varied sights and sounds of Goa as much as possible.
