Jaipur is a city located in the Rajasthan state of India. It is the capital of Rajasthan. This city is also known as 'Pink City' as most of the houses here is painted in pink color. This city has a number of palaces and towns which even today preserves its rich cultural heritage. Jaipur was the first planned city by British. This city is located in a semi arid desert. Jaipur is 431 meter above sea level and mainly has a hot climate during summers and very scanty rainfall annually. Banas and Banganga rivers flow through this city. Jaipur is related closely to Rajputs who settled here for a very long time. This is the only city in India that is planned according to Vastu Shastra.Tourist Places in Jaipur:Hawa Mahal:It is called as 'Palace of Winds'. It was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. It is a five storey building which resembles honeycomb of a beehive. It has around one thousand windows which are called 'Jharokhas'. The palace is built completely of red and pink sandstone. This palace is situated in the heart of Jaipur city.Jantar Mantar:This is a collection of astronomical instruments. The Jantar Mantar is basically an observatory used for the study of stars and planets in ancient times. Five such observatories were built in India and Jaipur observatory is largest of them all. All the observatories were built during the Mughal Rule in India.Chokhi Dhani:It is a village located in the outskirts of Jaipur and it represents the culture, traditions and lifestyle of village life of Rajasthan. It was developed in 1989 and today it has evolved as a famous tourist destination.Birla Mandir:It is a sacred Hindu temple that was built by Birla group which is the famous corporate group of India. It is located on Moti Dungari Hills. This temple is also called as 'Laxmi Narayan Temple'.Transport in Jaipur:Road:Jaipur is located on National Highway-8 (joining Delhi and Mumbai) and National Highway-11 (linking Bikaner and Agra). So it is easily reachable by bus or by car.Railways:Jaipur Railway Station is the headquarters of North Western Railway zone of the Indian Railways. The world famous luxurious train 'Palace on Wheels' is scheduled to make a stop at Jaipur by 2013.Airlines:Jaipur International Airport serves the city and offers national as well as international flights to various destinations of the world.So if you are planning a holiday then Jaipur may be the best choice for you.
