The LearJet 45 is the latest in a long line of storied aircraft from the company started by William P. Learn in the 1950s. LearJets have always been known for blazing performance numbers, but in the old days they were also known for noisy, less than spacious passenger quarters and less than efficient fuel burn numbers from their screaming, "straight pipe" turbojets.Now, that has changed as this new Learjet 45 leads everyone in both the luxury and performance quotient. Honeywell has created the new engine specifically for this jet, two FADEC-controlled TFE731-20 high bypass engines, each producing 3500 lbs of thrust. Plenty of power now but minus theold straight turbojet high fuel consumption and the noise. It's cruise speed is 457 knots, or 525 miles per hour, delivering you quickly anywhere in the country you wish to be, maximum speed is 464 knots.It climbs like a home-sick angel, initial rate of climb is 4000 fpm at typical takeoff weights, getting you out of of the haze and "Indian Country" and up into the fuel-saving Flight Levels in no time. The machine has a range of 2120 nautical miles its service ceiling is 51,000 feet. The maximum payload weight with full fuel is slightly over 1100 pounds. Vertical winglets improve the swept wing jet's high AoA handling and stall traits at low speeds.Honeywell has it's Primus 1000 EFIS avionics system installed in the Learjet 45. There are also several safety features which come standard, a certified GPS, a Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS II), and a Ground Proximity Warning System (GPWS). The jet can seat nine passengers but that is using the seat in the lavatory which is a certified seat, a more normal passenger maximum is eight passengers.The Learjet 45 has an exceptional cabin where you can really stretch your legs, it has the longest cabin in it's class. It offers a private lavatory with sink and lit mirror, leather seats, huge baggage storage, electrical power outlets, digital phone and modem, the Airshow 400 inflight information system, stereo CD and an air conditioning system that can operate while you are still on the tarmac. This luxury and performance doesn't come cheaply, it will generally be $2500 to $3500 per hour, a good investment for your time.
