I had the privilege of wearing the Desert Shell in several climates to get a feel for how effective it truly is. So I took the jacket hiking in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee, to the beaches of North Carolina, and in the humidity and hot suns of Knoxville, Tennessee and I can honestly say the claims hold up. Having grown up in Southern California and living in the desserts of Corona, California, I understand what dry, hot heat is like and I can say, without a doubt, that this jacket would have been a blessing when working in the yard during those hot summer months.The Desert Shell is a lightweight jacket made of organic cotton and hemp, which makes it the perfect choice for naturalists and busy parents looking for a product that can stand up to various conditions. Every part of the Desert Shell was designed to keep its wearer from getting overheated: from the oversized feel to the ability to allow air to flow through every aspect of the jacket to the mesh stripes.And the pockets are wonderful! Theres a Velcro pocket for a cell phone and another one for identification purposes (i.e. small wallet, membership id when traveling in the mountains, or passport). There are two oversized pockets which are great for carrying maps, a water bottle, snacks, and even child paraphernalia.
