Start by looking at your destinations. Look for vacations that are family friendly like the resorts around the Chinati Mountains in western Texas. Sit back along one of the three creeks that makes it way lazily through the mountains and watch the abundance of wildlife that prowl the area including white tailed deer, antelope, buffalo and over five hindered species of birds while you have a picnic lunch.While you're exploring the area that is a mix of high desert and mountains, you can look for signs of Native American life that once filled the area including arrow heads long since lost in the craters vastness. You may even be able to see the spirit of a Native America warrior poised to shoot one of the ancestors of the animals that still abounds today in the area today with his bow and arrow.Explore further into the area and it's not hard to imagine yourself going back in time to the days when nearby Fort Davis was fully armed against certain attack. Imagine the life of the dutiful army soldiers guarding the small town of Marfa inside the adobe walls of the fort. If you walk the fort remains you may even be able to sense the ghost of the soldiers who lived and died where you walk -still on duty.And when your family vacation is over you will feel like you have read the whole book- not just one page of the novel.
