Another version of the ABC game involves looking outside of the car. Instead of having a category, players look for words that begin with each letter of the alphabet outside of the car. For older children, bring a trivia game or a crossword puzzle. Score does not have to be kept on the trivia game. Players can just read the cards and give answers to pass the time. With a crossword puzzle, there will have to be a puzzle master to fill in the answers and read the clues. Three-word story telling is a funny way of creating a story with the family. The first person starts with three words and it goes around with each player inserting three words that would go after the first three until the story is finished. For example, the first person says, "I went to", the second says, "the zoo to" the third says, "see the monkeys". It can get quite silly. Modern electronics are typically not the ideal way for parents to occupy their children, but they go a long way in keeping them content. Older children may have cell phones or laptops to keep them occupied. Younger children may have handheld video games. If they like them and it keeps them quiet, let them play. Mad Libs is a word game that requires a note pad of outlines for the game. There will be missing nouns, adjectives, etc. The game is to fill these in, according to the directions, but to let each player pick words in turn. In the end, read the result.
