Not many will be staying there for a whole 2 week holiday.The steady growth in holiday entitlements means that the majority of people now enjoy between 4 and 6 weeks holiday a year and split these up in a number of ways. For a start, not every day is necessarily spent away from home. Lack of funds and/ or a backlog of house and garden maintenance might dictate that a week or two is spent at home. Secondly, most people tend nowadays to take a number of short breaks rather than traditional one week or 2 week holidays. Bank Holidays are often extended to a full week while long weekends are also extremely popular. Clearly, all the usual overseas locations will still get their share of longer breaks although weekend breaks in foreign cities have proved increasingly popular due to falling airfares and keenly priced internet offers.Here at home, there is no doubt that many more people now find that they have enough days off to warrant buying a caravan or camper van. At the other end of the scale, the boom in small, boutique hotels has been a direct result of gradual expansion in the short break market.Country breaks are also proving exceptionally popular as people elect to stay in destinations which are relatively quick to get to and which provide a relaxing contrast to what they are used to during the working week especially when that is spent in a busy urban environment. Accommodation in farms and self-catering cottages is now a far cry from the days of rosy- cheeked farmers wives serving up hearty breakfasts and cream teas. Today, the standard of food and accommodation can be as basic or as sophisticated as you want it to be. You can switch off entirely from the outside world or find WiFi and broadband close at hand.
