For some more relaxing adventures, there is also plenty on offer in Rotorua. Rotorua Museum exhibits the history of the Te Arawa people who first discovered these sacred lands, along with national and international art exhibits to enjoy. Rainbow Springs offers a chance to see kiwi, tuatara, and has a big splash water ride for those who are seeking more of a thrill. Paradise Valley Springs is a wildlife park with native animals such as kea birds, trout, and even a pride of African lions. Rotorua golf club is an 18 hole thermal golf course with boiling mud pools and spectacular natural surroundings. Te Puia is an arts and crafts institute where one can learn about weaving and carving from Maori masters who have preserved their traditions through these traditional activities. Mokoia Island offers a unique way to learn about the love story which is deeply enshrined in Maori history in this area while enjoying this protected wildlife sanctuary.
