This is an annual event of Ho Chi Minh City tourism in order to promote the diversity of fruits of Southern Vietnam region, simultaneously to honor achievements of agricultural labors who contribute to preserve and develop national identity of Vietnam through fruit artistic products.The most outstanding feature of the festival is “Floating Fruit Market” with 70 booths which are boats carrying all kinds of fruits. The floating market lasts during 3 summer months, selling more than 180 kinds of fruits in the price much lower than that of other markets from 20 to 40 percent.The display area of the festival introduces tourists to rare and strange fruit collections from provinces and cities across the country. Those collections have exotic names such as lizard, Osaka, trumpet or rattle… Especially, many giant fruits like squashes, pumpkins which weigh from 50 to 60 kilograms, 10-kilogram coconut, and 3-kilogram mango are displayed in this area. In addition, there are over 100 miniature models made from fruits which are placed on every road of the festivals to attract the attention of tourists.This year festival also features many attractive and diverse activities like the visual art contest with fruits which brings unique and colorful fruit works, and the parade recreating the legend of wonderland with images of fairies hedging Fruit Gods visiting Southern Fruit Festival. Visiting culinary street, tourists will have the opportunity to enjoy over 30 strange delicious dishes made of fruits. The contest of delicious and safe Southern fruits on the opening day of the festival attracted many typical fruit categories of 21 provinces in Vietnam. Those were best varieties which were planted carefully to meet all the safety criteria of the judge.During the festival, tourists may enjoy a wide number of artistic performances, namely, Don ca tai tu, a traditional folk music of the South Vietnam, exchanging program between international troupes of Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Laos, and Cambodia, synthesis musical performances and folk games.According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Vice Chairman of People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, this year fruit festival has witnessed the expansion of scale as well as the variety of the content. It is an ideal opportunity to tighten the relationship between farmer, producer, distributor and consumer, simultaneously, to contribute to promote brands of Vietnamese fruits and images of Ho Chi Minh City festivals to international friends.
