Like any American, traveling occasionally is just what I love doing and I bet you share the same stuff with me. But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Escaping from our job and other stressful activities is just something that w Torres del Paine is among the biggest of Chile’s national parks, occupying almost 600,000 acres (242,000 ha) of land in the south on the border with Argentina. It is also among the most important, receiving a significant proportion of domes

What is it that makes a stay in one of the delightful Kensington hotels so popular with international visitors? You could make an argument for the tariffs, service levels and local travel connections, of course, but to really understand why so many people flock here, you need to walk the streets and sample the atmosphere of this fascinating part of London. The historyThere have always been people living in this area, at least as far back as Anglo Saxon history. For the most part, for centuries the locality remained a small village with rural surroundings, even though it was in close proximity to London. What should be remembered of course is that London in those days was restricted to very much around what today we call The City and Westminster. So, there were green fields between London and Kensington and that remained the case until the latter part of the 17th century. In 1688, William of Orange and his English wife landed in England to oust the incumbent King James II. Today historians call this the Glorious Revolution, although some argue that it should be more correctly termed the Dutch Conquest. William didn’t have the best of health and found London distinctly unappealing with its odours and damp atmosphere due to the Thames. So he moved the court out to Kensington Palace, which was substantially expanded and developed. His view was that he preferred the general country atmosphere and clean air of the locality. It didn’t take long for the beautiful and rich to follow the court, and almost immediately buildings sprang up to cater for the new aristocratic and affluent classes that were drawn into the area. Why the history is importantPerhaps you're wondering just what this ancient history has to do with the modern Kensington hotels today and the desirability of staying in this part of London? Well, if you take a stroll around the side streets, away from the main roads, you will find a substantial cultural and architectural legacy of those long-ago days.True, very few buildings of the Jacobean period remain, but that connection with money and discerning residents was carried on into the Georgian and Victorian epochs. The result was that the area became extremely well endowed with impressive if not regal buildings. Latterly, some of these have been converted into hotels, and in many cases their external appearance is simply superb. Many highlight their period architectural features and they have retained their internal Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian fittings as well. When you stroll around the streets you will inevitably be drawn into a sense of that stereotypical London that is so closely associated with the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries. It doesn’t matter how cynical you are, it’s easy to become entranced with the broad tree lined streets, the porticoes of the buildings and the liberal sprinkling of open space park areas. It’s really everything those old Hollywood movies showing late 19th and early 20th century London were all about (imagine those classic Sherlock Holmes films), and it is like stepping back into another world of refinement. You would need to be a very strange individual not to feel you’re part of something very special when you’re staying on one of the lovely Kensington hotels. What this means todayThis area perhaps scores highly in visitor affections because it is part of an England that has largely disappeared from the country and certainly most other parts of London’s dynamic 21st century culture. This borough and its charming hotels are really part of that traditional view of British solidity and elegance that tourists are so keen to experience. While the area continues to deliver on those cultural vibrations, Kensington hotels will continue to be popular with visitors.
