Uttarakhand has a tag of Dev Bhumi which means the land of Saints as there are several Hindu Pilgrims situated in Uttarakhand and one of them is Kedarnath temple which is positioned at the altitude of 3508 meters in Rudraprayag, in Garhwal Himalayas at the approx distance of 221 km from the Rishikesh City. History of Kedarnath TempleThis temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and one of the essential parts of a circuit named Char Dham Pilgrimage Circuit which includes Badrinath, Gangotri from where river Ganga Originates, and Yamunotri from where river Yamuna originates. It is said that it was built in the 8th century by Hindu Saint called Adi Shankaracharya but on the other side, people say that it is connected to the Mahabharat " The Kurukshetra Carnage" where Pandavas fought with Kauravas and defeated them. But it was guilt that forced Pandavas to meet Lord Shiva to seek Forgiveness for the deeds or sins done by them during Mahabharat( War). The researchers of this institute state that they discovered some line on the walls of the temple which has Yellow color and point to the Glacial Activity in the area of Kedarnath that's why these scientists named this period (1300 AD- 1900 AD) as the Little Ice Age.Massive Flood in 2013It was a bad time for Kedarnath temple and the Hindu Devotees as a massive flood swept through Uttarakhand state in more than 190 people lost their life in Kedarnath only, 236 Injured and more than 4000 people are still missing. Whereas the Kedarnath temple also survived the fury of nature and there is a statement given by local people that a massive block appeared in the path of flood and eventually saved the temple and it is still attracting lots of devotees to visit this ancient architecture which eventually helps Uttarakhand Tourism to invite tourists or travelers from different locations of the globe.
