Even the locals are torn between north island attraction Famara and south island attraction Papagayo. Famara is more picturesque in its natural setting at the North West Coast of the island. There, you will feel the sea breeze from the Atlantic and Trade Winds. Because of that factor, the beach becomes very popular with wind surfers as well as kite surfers. Famara is big, measuring 8km with the majestic Famara massif at one end. This is the range of cliffs that stood high at 460metres. It is laid with a great expanse of sand that forms the vast bay. You will also enjoy the view of La Garciosa, another small island that is a little further out at sea. This is a popular beach that is frequented by the locals, especially in the summer. But the best time to visit this beach is either September or October; that is because the Trade Winds would not be blowing too strong and you can enjoy a more pleasant walk and time then.Southern beachPapagayo means Parrot in Spanish; it is sited at the south of Lanzarote which is more sheltered. It is close to the famous Playa Blanca resort which is open to tourists all year round. The beaches here are totally different from those at Famara; the beaches are categorized into coves and bays. There are a number of these here which give great views to Fuerteventura, which is a neighboring island. Papayago beaches are protected. They are located 20 minutes away from Playa Blanca which can be easily accessed by foot, car or water taxi which can be hailed from the resorts ferry port.
