It was Christmas Day 1999. I remember very little of the day apart from one thing: playing through the majority of 'Spyro The Dragon', scorching villainous baddies and completing mind-boggling (for a 7 year old) puzzles for the entirety of the festive period. It was the day that I was first subjected to the marvel which was the Playstation, an unimpressive-looking grey box that anybody over the age of 40 could not comprehend.15 years later, I have been pondering the same question over and over in my mind. A question that I'm sure many of you have been asking yourselves as well. Should I get a PS4? Well, apparently I should. Apparently they have the best graphics of all time. Apparently they run faster than any other console. Apparently they have the capacity to greater things than every games console ever produced combined together. So surely I should just go out and get one? Parting with nigh on 400 quid should be an easy decision, right?Well, I have played (or at least seen) games on the PS4 and the truth is I am fairly reluctant. The graphics don't really look that much better; it's like changing from standard definition to high definition when watching a football match: it looks spectacular for seven minutes and then everything just seems to blend in. As for all the techy "it's faster than everything ever", that doesn't bother me . . . at all. I'm not (and have never been) a serious gamer; I've enjoyed the odd game of FIFA, or blasting terrorists on CoD, but as for the serious titles I've never really gone near them. For example, I played The Last Of Us - the most critically acclaimed Playstation exclusive of all time - on the PS3. I loved it. It was a complete thrill ride that played like a movie, causing you to actually care about the characters rather than seeking out all the different ways in which they could be killed (see Nico Belic in GTA IV). When I heard that the game was getting re-released on the PS4 I collapsed with excitement. Imagine that game but ten times better! I sought out YouTube clips of the remastered game, and strapped myself down waiting for my mind to be blown. It wasn't. In fact, it looked exactly the same, sounded exactly the same and . . . well . . . didn't impress me at all. I keep being told that the PS4 has so much potential, but why hasn't this potential been realised yet? My question to you is simple: should I get one?
